IPL
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy using the Prism laser platform is a non-invasive light-based treatment designed to improve overall skin tone and clarity. It targets pigmentation, vascular irregularities, and signs of photoaging, making it a versatile option for comprehensive skin rejuvenation.
Unlike traditional lasers, IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light wavelengths, allowing treatment of multiple chromophores within the skin simultaneously.

Mechanism of Action
IPL emits high-intensity pulses of polychromatic light that penetrate the skin and are selectively absorbed by specific targets (chromophores), primarily:
-
Melanin (pigmented lesions)
-
Hemoglobin (vascular lesions)
This process, known as selective photothermolysis, converts light energy into heat, resulting in:
-
Fragmentation of pigmented lesions
-
Coagulation of superficial blood vessels
-
Stimulation of collagen production in the dermis
The Prism laser system allows for controlled energy delivery with adjustable parameters to safely and effectively treat various skin concerns.
Treatment Areas
IPL with Prism can be used on multiple areas of the body, including:
-
Face
-
Neck
-
Chest (décolletage)
-
Hands
-
Other areas with sun damage or discoloration

Our Approach
Treatment Protocol
A typical IPL treatment course includes:
-
3 to 5 sessions spaced approximately 3 to 4 weeks apart
Progressive improvement is seen with each session, with optimal results achieved after completing the full series.

Pre- and Post-Treatment Considerations
Pre-Treatment:
-
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks
-
Discontinue retinoids and exfoliating agents 3–5 days prior
-
No active infections or compromised skin in treatment area
Post-Treatment:
-
Daily use of broad-spectrum SPF 30+ or higher for 4-6 weeks to avoid hyperpigmentation.
-
Avoid heat, sweating, and sun exposure for 24–48 hours
-
Do not pick or exfoliate treated pigmented lesions
-
Resume active skincare products once skin has normalized.
Patient Selection
Ideal candidates include:
-
Patients with sun damage, pigmentation, or redness
-
Individuals seeking overall skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime
-
Fitzpatrick skin types I–III (with caution in higher skin types)
-
Patients committed to sun protection and post-care compliance
Clinical Considerations
IPL is not suitable for tanned skin or certain darker skin types without careful adjustment.
Multiple treatments are required, and maintenance sessions may be recommended to sustain results.
